Around a third of the fragments surely or most likely belonging to Pacuvius’ Medus seems to come from a recognition scene between Medea and her father Aeetes, which has probably to be placed at the end of the tragedy. An analysis of the formal features of the verses highlights the pathetic character of this scene. On the other hand, a reading of the fontes provides evidence to the attribution of the uncertain fragments and to the dramaturgic structure of the scene. Particularly Cic. Tusc. 3, 25-26 explains Aeetes’ attitude towards Medea: namely, he seems to be driven by the desiderium regni and his hope to recover the power.

Circa un terzo dei frammenti tràditi del Medus di Pacuvio o attribuiti con verisimiglianza a questo dramma sembrano provenire da una scena di riconoscimento tra Medea e suo padre Eeta, da collocare probabilmente sul finale della tragedia. L’analisi formale dei versi permette di valorizzare un certo patetismo della scena; l’esame dei fontes aiuta ad argomentare l’attribuzione dei frammenti incerti e fornisce indicazioni di carattere drammaturgico. È soprattutto da Cic. Tusc. 3, 25-26 che si ricavano osservazioni interessanti sull’atteggiamento di Eeta, mosso dal desiderium regni e dalla speranza di rientrarne in possesso.
