This paper proposes an analysis of the geographical annotations in the Pseudacronian comments on the Odes of Horace, from a contenutistic and formal point of view; this analysis confirms that the fundamental interest of the commentators is the semantic explanation of the text of Horace: we can define them as “grammatical comments”. Moreover, researching sources for the geographic information contained in the scholia opens to different possibilities: there is a link with Porphyrio and probably with other lost Horatian commentaries; we can clearly find traces of the use of Virgil and Virgilian exegesis, in particular Servius; there is no evidence of consultation of geographical technical texts, although some structural and content convergences lead to the hypothesis that commentators could have used books such as that of Vibio Sequestre. Finally, we should not forget the text of Horace, from which information (even erroneous) is often derived.

L’analisi formale e contenutistica delle annotazioni geografiche presenti all’interno dei commenti pseudacronei alle Odi di Orazio conferma che l’interesse fondamentale dei commentatori è la spiegazione semantica del testo. Inoltre, l’analisi delle fonti delle notizie geografiche contenute negli scholia apre a diverse possibilità: esiste un legame con Porfirione e probabilmente anche con altri commenti oraziani, per noi perduti; è evidente l’utilizzo di Virgilio e della scoliastica virgiliana, in particolare Servio; non ci sono invece prove della consultazione di testi tecnici geografici, anche se alcune convergenze strutturali e contenutistiche portano a ipotizzare che i commentatori abbiano utilizzato libelli come quello di Vibio Sequestre. Non va dimenticato, infine, il testo stesso di Orazio, da cui vengono ricavate informazioni (anche erronee) per autoschediasmo.

The paper presents new information collected during the work towards a critical edition of Servii commentarius in artem Donati. Three cases are singled out (GL IV, 423, 33ff.; 427, 13ff.; 440, 7ff.) in order to illustrate the genetic relationships between the testimonia; in particular, as a result of a number of emendations ope codicum as well as of a fresh collation of manuscript Paris, Bibliothèque Nationale de France, lat. 7530 (s. VIII4⁄4; siglum P), a new text is presented that aims to improve Keil’s 1864 standard edition (GL IV, 405-448), which not only was based exclusively on P, but had also inherited various mistakes from H. van Putschen’s edition (1605), which Keil had used as his copy text. The case GL IV, 440, 7ff. is also analyzed on the exegetical level, pointing out some interpretative difficulties which, from a general point of view, concern the Commentarius text, whose doctrine’s analysis will certainly be favored by the new critical edition.

L’articolo rende noti alcuni dei nuovi dati acquisiti nel corso del lavoro condotto per la nuova edizione critica del Servii commentarius in artem Donati. Vengono presi in esame tre casi emblematici (GL IV, 423, 33 ss.; 427, 13 ss.; 440, 7 ss.) al fine di illustrare i rapporti genetici fra i testimonia individuati e mostrare alcuni punti in cui, grazie ad emendamenti ope codicum e a un’attenta ri-collazione del celebre manoscritto Paris, Bibliothèque Nationale de France, lat. 7530 (s. VIII4⁄4; siglum P), il testo risulta sensibilmente migliore rispetto a quello dell’edizione di riferimento (GL IV, 405-448), che fu curata da H. Keil nel 1864, sulla base del solo P, e che risulta inficiata da errori ereditati dalla precedente edizione, curata da H. van Putschen nel 1605, usata da Keil come esemplare di collazione. Il passo corrispondente a GL IV, 440, 7 ss. è analizzato anche sul piano esegetico, evidenziando talune difficoltà interpretative che, da un punto di vista generale, interessano il testo del Commentarius, l’analisi della cui dottrina sarà certamente favorita dalla nuova edizione critica.
