Da Erodoto a Rat-Man: classici come virus

Il contributo si propone di ripercorrere il Fortleben recentissimo della vicenda delle Termopili, a partire dalla genesi del film 300 di Zack Snyder, nuovo archetipo della vicenda, alle sue successive evoluzioni. Già nel racconto erodoteo i Trecento trascolorano nella leggenda. Dal resoconto dello storico, dalla suggestione dei pepla degli anni ’60 e dalla pubblicazione del graphic novel 300 di Miller, Snyder prende le mosse per il suo film, che segue con precisione estrema la trama e l’estetica del fumetto di riferimento. Le reazioni di apprezzamento o meno del film derivano dalla capacità dello spettatore di rendersi conto che l’aemulatio non è sul testo erodoteo, ma sul fumetto. I successivi sviluppi del meme this is Sparta fanno riferimento certamente al film; un’eccezione è rappresentata dalla riscrittura fumettistica di Ortolani in cui l’autore si rivolge contemporaneamente al pubblico del film e ai lettori del graphic novel.

The contribution aims to retrace the recent Fortleben of the Thermopylae story, starting with the genesis of Zack Snyder’s 300 film, a new archetype of the story to its subsequent evolutions. Already in the Herodotean tale, the 300 Spartans are near to become legendary. From the historian, from the suggestion of the pepla movies and from the publication of Miller’s graphic novel 300, Snyder moves for his film, which follows with extreme precision the plot and aesthetics of the reference comic. The appreciation or not of the film comes from the spectator’s ability to realize that the aemulatio is not about the Herodotean text but about the comic. The subsequent developments of meme this is Sparta certainly refer to the film; an exception is represented by the re-writing of Ortolani’s comic book, in which the author addresses simultaneously the audience of the film and readers of the graphic novel.
